ABOUT US

there's nothing like a good chip

The spot we're in has been a fish & chip shop as long as we can remember. Orewa Beach Fish & Chips owner Mark Huxford grew up a stone's throw from the shop. Just across from the beach, in the heart of Orewa, it's just the perfect spot for grabbing some dinner to eat down by the water. Or even better, picking up something hot and tasty to enjoy after a freezing cold surf or SUP session.

Seeing the old King Cockle shop sitting empty in 2020, Mark felt a bit sad. Because there's nothing like hot chips and fresh fish, and a perfectly cooked and seasoned chip is one of the truest joys in life. So in late 2020, Mark completed extensive renovations of the shop and cooking area, making it bright, clean, and fresh inside, and opened the new shop as Orewa Beach Fish & Chips in April 2021.

The renovations included the installation of an incredibly detailed map of the upper half of the North Island/Te Ika-a-Māui by artist Gary Meeson, so it's also a great place to stop in if you're wanting some inspiration for your adventures in the beautiful Auckland and Northland regions.

#OREWAAPPRECIATION

it's kind of like paradise

There's no place like home, and when you live in Orewa, you know you're one of the lucky ones. We've got 3km of beach that's perfect for walking, swimming, wind-surfing, kayaking, all the water sports. We've got a magnificent Kauri forest, Te Ara Tahuna (the Estuary Walkway), amazing local businesses, secondhand shops and cafes, and we're only 30 minutes from Auckland City.

It's no secret that Orewa Beach is popular with holiday-makers during the summer, but locals know our little seaside town is beautiful all year round.
